Fine Motor skills are very important to a child's development. These skills are prerequisites to future life skills like: putting on clothes, tying shoes, writing, etc. Did you know that cutting is a pre-writing skill? Cutting out shapes and different line patterns mimick the strokes of letters and numbers children will later learn to write and pictures they will draw. Don't be afraid to put safety scissors in your child's hand, with active monitoring and guidance it's great opportunity to creatively explore!
Cutting is one of many ways to aid with this development. Helping out with small chores around the house such as: sock folding, taking clothes out of the dryer and putting away clothes are just a few other ways to mature this skill. It's a win win for the entire family!
Parents please share with us some ways that you help to develop your child's fine motor skills at home?
