Addition, Addition, Addition

We are working on the understanding of addition as putting together and adding to. Using the Mathematics puzzle we introduced over the holiday, we explored this concept a bit more. Having your child write out the number sentence is a great way to check for understanding. This also provides additional (no pun intended) practice on other skills such as: number writing, 1 to1 coordination and reading (I'll explain). There is one other skill this introduces, which a skill a lot of students forget to do and that's checking your work!

The resource we used in this video allowed us to easily teach that skill. It was simple, if the answer didn't fit the puzzle, you had to go back and count again (1 to 1 coordinating)

Reading is skill need all subject areas including math. We read from left to right, same thing math; this is before learning the order of operation of course 😉. As your child write the number sentence it is important for them to write it in order.

So Villagers, what resources or tips do you use to help your child understand addition? Send us a message or comment below and we will be sure to share with yhe rest of our Village! #additionpractice #numbersentences #mathfacts #thevillageguide #yourgotosource #learningmadefun #mathtime #addingstrategy #understanding
