So you may have heard or read that students lose an average of 2 months of learning during the summer. I dont know about you but we have worked too hard during the school year to lose anything. Yes parents, you too have done a great deal of work during the school year, getting project supplies, studying for test and learning the "new school math" during homework time. Here are somethings you can do to decrease the the amount of knowledge lost during the summer:
*If your school provides a summer packet for students to complete before returning PLEASE follow it. *Continue to read DAILY and ask comprehension and interest questions. What was the story about? What was your favorite part? Name 2 characters from the story. Teacher Pay Teacher is a great resource, with plenty of free options! https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Browse/Search:reading%20comprehension%20passages%20and%20questions/Price-Range/Free *Consider a summer program. Keeping student engaged socially with their peers is important to their development. *Create a calendar for the summer and add a daily activity (math or ELAR or both). Again if your school provides something please follow it. * Take it outside and have fun. Ex: Have a relay race with colors, letters, numbers and words (spelling, rhyming, etc) * BE CREATIVE!!!
Come back to see videos of how we keep learning fun during the summer!
